Doug's First Movie

Back in the day, when ABC had "One Saturday Morning" cartoons, they bought Doug from Nickelodeon, made him a little older in high school, and progressed his story a little. Then Nickelodeon came out with their Rugrats movies so Disney tried to do the same with Doug. 

Every early 90's kid I know loved watching Doug Funny get into shenanigans with Skeeter, Roger, Patti, Porkchop, and the gang. 

Double Switch

This is a Disney Television Movie that involves one of Disney's favorite techniques, screen splitting! They could do this a hundred more times I still love to see it. This particular movie has identical strangers, not twins. I love the identical strangers - Lizzie Maguire has one, the Mickey version of Prince and the Pauper, and that model one with Justin Timberlake in it... 

  

I would watch this one again. It came out the year I was born and is so typical late 80's. I loved it. 

Davy Crockett and the River Pirates

Another Davy Crockett adventure! Well, there are a couple of adventures. I think I liked this one better than the other. Davy and his friend get into all sorts of trouble again and show off how brave and talented they are. 

Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier

Next up, Davy Crockett! I'm not going to lie, I thought he was pretty dreamy. Ending was obviously sad. I didn't like all the violence but I suppose it is pretty true to our nation's history so of course it is in there. The relationship he had with his friend was pretty funny. 

Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story

This TV movie was on ABC and it is about Shirley Temple and her career in Hollywood.

I enjoyed this movie. I think the actress does a pretty good job portraying Shirley Temple and I love when I can recognize the scenes she is doing from the original movies. 

Child of Glass

Next up is a random movie from the 70's called Child of Glass. I believe it was a TV movie. 

This one was not my favorite. It was hard to follow and pretty random. 

Casebusters

I watched this movie from the 80's about some kids helping their grandpa catch criminals. 

I didn't care for it too much. I just thought the kids were pesky and should have left the case to the cops. 

Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales

Next up is a few episode shorts from Pixar, mostly about Mater. If you really like Cars and love Mater, then these shorts are for you. If you cannot stand Mater and the annoying things he says and does, then skip it. 

It keeps the kid entertained but I'm OK not seeing it again. I'm more excited for Cars 3. 

Beverly Hills Family Robinson

Time for a Walt Disney Television movie. This is Beverly Hills Family Robinson! 

The mom is a famous TV host and she video tapes her family going on a vacation to Hawaii. Their yacht is taken by pirates and they end up on a deserted island where they build an amazing tree house with some surfer who also happens to be living there. 

The best part is Buffy is in it, and she is so young! This was definitely before her slaying days. 

Bejewelled

I watched this TV Movie called "Bejewelled" and I'm pretty sure it is the most boring movie I've come across in this challenge so far... 

I always say your current mood when you are watching a movie has a lot to do with whether or not you enjoy it. I was frustrated just trying to find this movie and when I finally found it, it didn't seem worth the trouble. It was random. I'm not really sure how it ended. I may have fallen asleep! 

In any case, it got pretty good reviews on some other websites that helped me track down where to find the movie - so I suppose it really does depend on the viewer as well. 

Balloon Farm

Disney's Balloon Farm was an odd one. I'm still not really sure how the magic worked and why people would spend so much money on balloons. I didn't enjoy this too much. It was a mix of being bored and confused I think. 

I still don't understand what that guy was and what he was doing with the balloons and why he was picking out seeds so messily. I guess I will never find out. 

We tried some crafting with water balloons we had laying around. Here is a balloon covered flipflop.

Back Home

In this movie, a young girl is evacuated to America at the start of World War II and has just returned after the war to England. Adjusting to the lifestyle and culture of England after spending her formative years in America seems to be a big struggle as she now considers herself American. 

It wasn't a very entertaining movie but I suppose it was a bit educational. The girl liked to use stencils, especially on the walls, so I took inspiration from that and used some circle stencils and paint on my scrapbooking project. 

Annie (1999)

Our next movie is Annie - the 1999 TV movie version that aired on ABC. I think it may be our first musical, too. I like musicals. 

Annie is a classic, of course, but this version was not the best. It was a TV movie after all. Annie has been redone several times over the years. I do like the cast in this one, though. 

We were pretty boring about the activity this time around and just did some house chores. I didn't even get a picture of it! Unfortunately for the boys I do know all the words to It's a Hard Knock Life. I'll have to make them miserable with that next time I clean. 

A Saintly Switch

This week we watched A Saintly Switch, which was produced by Walt Disney Entertainment and premiered on ABC. 

I thought the movie was funny, but how unfair was it that Sara had to go back into her own body just in time to give birth?! Ouch. The message in the movie is pretty clear - don't talk about others having it so easy when you don't know what they go through every day. Everyone has their own bag of problems. 

We took inspiration from all of the football in the movie and taught the kid how to play paper football. We made field goals out of Popsicle sticks and quite a few different paper footballs until we finally got a good one. The kid needs to work on his flicking skills. 

A Mom For Christmas

I was on my own this week to watch A Mom For Christmas, way after Christmas. 

I feel like I've seen this before, but who knows. There are so many movies out there where mannequins turn to life so it is hard to say. There were some sad parts and some random parts. I don't understand the dad in this story. Why is he just letting this woman into his home to stay and play with his kid? And this sales woman - what sort of magic powers does she have and why? What is up with the rest of the mannequins? The whole thing is mind boggling. But I am pretty certain I would have enjoyed it as a young pre-teen girl, before cell phones and netflix and all that. 

I was drawing a blank for an activity/craft for this one. I'm not going to lie. I talked to the kid and told him it was a movie about moms. I mentioned Mother's Day is next month so he said he would make a Mother's Day present, and then he gave it to me a month early. I'll take it! And while he crafted, I was able to have some time to craft, too! Here is his masterpiece:

A Knight in Camelot

This week we did something completely different and watched A Knight in Camelot. 

Of course I'm being sarcastic. This movie and A Kid in King Arthur's Court, which we watched last week, were both loosely based on Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court". Also, Sandy from this movie is played by the same girl who played Katey in the previous one. She must love knights or Old English...  

Whoopi was very lucky that random things from her desk were sent back with her after her machine malfunctioned. The old laptop ended up saving her life! Thank goodness it had enough battery. 

Overall, this movie felt random. There were some good parts, and I definitely love Whoopi, but I just couldn't understand certain parts of it, like why Merlin was so shady and then becomes her BFF in the end. 

We took inspiration from the castle and decided to paint our own. It doubles as a birdhouse, just in time for Spring.
