A Kid in King Arthur's Court

This week we watched A Kid in King Arthur's Court, a fun time traveling movie!

I remember watching this movie when I was younger and just loving everything about it - the clothes, the horses, the sword fights, the way people spoke, and of course, the castle. The story is pretty random - why does this random baseball player fall through the ground and into the 6th century? But who doesn't love the funny faces the old knights make when Calvin plays them music from the 90's? And my favorite part is when the older princess Sarah, played by a young Kate Winslet, reveals herself as the Black Knight and wins her own hand in marriage. I wonder if she and Princess Merida would have gotten along...

Apparently 2 years later a sequel to this movie was made "A Kid in Aladdin's Palace" but Disney was not involved with it. I've never seen it but I wouldn't mind checking it out some day after I'm finished with the Disney movies.

The Kid and I took inspiration from this movie by building our castle tent and pretending to be knights. The Kid has a collection of plastic swords and shields that came in handy for this activity!

An Extremely Goofy Movie

Today we watched a sequel to A Goofy Movie.

It didn't quite live up to the original but it was still funny. I liked the X-Games. I remember being on my bike and roller blades every day around the time this movie came out. Goofy is still a love-able nerdball.

We were inspired to do some sweet wheelies and tricks of our own. The kid got a chance to ride the scooter he got for Christmas.

A Goofy Movie

This week's movie is awesome - A Goofy Movie!

I forgot how funny this movie was. I think I loved it so much because I grew up in the 90's and all of the things Max does were considered so cool, and he was so awkward. It felt real. I was so excited to recognize Pauly Shore and Jason Marsden doing voices. The skate boarding, the 90's styles, the singing - it was all great. Goofy is a classic character. Now I have The Goof Troop theme song stuck in my head. Anybody?

We took inspiration from the music and concert in the movie. I have Rockband, Singstar, a Karaoke machine, Karaoke revolution... I'm a little obsessed. The Kid sang one of his favorites "We Got the Beat" by the Go Go's and I got it on film.

A Friendship in Vienna

Today we watched an older Disney Channel Premiere film, A Friendship in Vienna.

This movie was educational. We learned a lot about what it was like to live in Vienna during that time. It was obviously sad, and sometimes scary. I didn't like how it ended - the girls just never see or talk to each other again. If this was present day, those girls would have just found each other on social media. It is crazy to think how many friendships just ended back then because of people moving away or losing touch. Nowadays you can stay friends with your preschool pals and catch up online.

We were inspired by this movie to make friendship bracelets. I made one with thread for the kid. He made one with beads.

A Far Off Place

Up next is a movie I had never seen before, A Far Off Place.

This one scared me a bit - it was a more violent Disney movie. I wouldn't show this to the kid until he was much, much older. I liked some parts of the movie, and I definitely loved the cast - Reese Witherspoon and Ethan Embry long before Sweet Home Alabama. I guess I just love the fun and happy Disney movies over the dramatic ones.

Since there was so much sand in the movie, I decided I'd let the kid play with some sand art I found in an old craft drawer. Simple and easy.
