Avalon High

It is time for another Disney Channel Movie. This one is called Avalon High.

The actress from the recent Tomorrowland movie is in this and I so desperately wanted to like her Disney Channel movie but something about it seemed off. It all felt rushed and almost like for a second they were surprised that the Camelot characters were reincarnated and then a second later they got over it. But Disney sure loves to make movies about Arthur and Merlin! 

Since I watched most of the movie myself, I did the activity myself with a friend at work. We went for a walk at lunch through a trail, much like the one that Allie and Will run on in the movie. 

A Knight in Camelot

This week we did something completely different and watched A Knight in Camelot. 

Of course I'm being sarcastic. This movie and A Kid in King Arthur's Court, which we watched last week, were both loosely based on Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court". Also, Sandy from this movie is played by the same girl who played Katey in the previous one. She must love knights or Old English...  

Whoopi was very lucky that random things from her desk were sent back with her after her machine malfunctioned. The old laptop ended up saving her life! Thank goodness it had enough battery. 

Overall, this movie felt random. There were some good parts, and I definitely love Whoopi, but I just couldn't understand certain parts of it, like why Merlin was so shady and then becomes her BFF in the end. 

We took inspiration from the castle and decided to paint our own. It doubles as a birdhouse, just in time for Spring.

A Kid in King Arthur's Court

This week we watched A Kid in King Arthur's Court, a fun time traveling movie! 

I remember watching this movie when I was younger and just loving everything about it - the clothes, the horses, the sword fights, the way people spoke, and of course, the castle. The story is pretty random - why does this random baseball player fall through the ground and into the 6th century? But who doesn't love the funny faces the old knights make when Calvin plays them music from the 90's? And my favorite part is when the older princess Sarah, played by a young Kate Winslet, reveals herself as the Black Knight and wins her own hand in marriage. I wonder if she and Princess Merida would have gotten along... 

Apparently 2 years later a sequel to this movie was made "A Kid in Aladdin's Palace" but Disney was not involved with it. I've never seen it but I wouldn't mind checking it out some day after I'm finished with the Disney movies. 

The Kid and I took inspiration from this movie by building our castle tent and pretending to be knights. The Kid has a collection of plastic swords and shields that came in handy for this activity!
